Why Duplicate Tool IDs Are Allowed

Some machine configurations require multiple physical tools to share a Tool ID. Mini-turrets are one example where duplicate Tool IDs may be used.

What the Program Error Checker Checks

The Program Error Checker is checking whether a tool change is meaningful.

For example, if one process uses Tool ID 10 and the next process also uses Tool ID 10, there may be no meaningful tool change for the machine to perform.

This is different from simply having multiple tools somewhere in the part that share Tool ID 10.

Verify the Tool IDs

  1. Open the part in GibbsCAM.

  2. Review the Tool Tiles for the affected processes.

  3. Check the Tool ID assigned to each tool.

  4. Confirm whether the same Tool ID is intentionally being used for multiple tools.

If the duplicate Tool ID is intentional

No change is required simply because multiple tools have the same Tool ID.

Duplicate Tool IDs are permitted and can be required for certain machine configurations.

If consecutive tools have the same Tool ID

Review the process order and tool assignments.

If the tools are intended to be separate tool changes, make sure the Tool IDs and process sequence are configured appropriately for the machine and post processor.
