Graphics Hardware Recommendations

GibbsCAM relies heavily on the graphics processor (GPU) for displaying solid models and simulation.

For the best performance:

  • Use a dedicated NVIDIA or AMD graphics card.

  • Keep graphics drivers up to date.

  • Avoid using generic Microsoft display drivers.

  • On laptops with switchable graphics, configure GibbsCAM to use the dedicated GPU.

  • Connect laptops to AC power when running GibbsCAM.

Integrated graphics may be suitable for basic part programming but can reduce performance when working with large models or simulation along with other graphical issues.


Processor Recommendations

Most GibbsCAM operations benefit from modern, high-performance processors.

For optimal performance:

  • Choose the highest clock speed available.

  • Multiple processor cores improve some operations but do not accelerate every machining calculation.

  • Modern Intel Core Ultra and AMD Ryzen processors provide excellent overall performance.

Memory requirements vary depending on the complexity of the parts being programmed.

Storage Recommendations

An NVMe SSD provides the best performance for:

  • Opening large part files

  • Saving projects

  • Loading machine definitions

  • Importing CAD models

  • Installing updates

Avoid installing GibbsCAM on slow mechanical hard drives whenever possible.


Network License (NLO) Requirements

If using a Network License (NLO):

  • Ensure the License Server is installed on a supported Windows computer.

  • Verify that all client workstations can communicate with the License Server.

  • Confirm that required network ports are open if clients cannot connect to the server. The Installation Guide notes that ports 2764 and 2765 must be accessible for client communication.
