Summary
This error indicates that the GibbsCAM Network License (NLO) client cannot obtain a valid license from the network license server.
In most cases, the problem is caused by one of the following:
The Network License Server has not been installed or activated.
The client computer cannot communicate with the license server.
The server license file needs to be updated after a license change.
This article explains how to identify and resolve each of these scenarios.

Cause
This message indicates that the client was unable to obtain a valid license from the Network License (NLO) server.
Common causes include:
The NLO server has not been configured.
The client cannot connect to the license server.
The server's license file is missing or outdated.
The RLM service is not running.
Resolution
Follow the steps below in order.
Step 1 – Verify the Network License Server Has Been Configured
If this is a new installation, verify that the server has been fully installed and activated.
Confirm that:
The GibbsCAM NLO Server software is installed.
The Registration Tool has been completed.
A valid .lic license file has been created.
The RLM license service is running.
If the server has not yet been configured, complete the server installation before activating client workstations.
Refer to:
- Network License (NLO) Server Setup
Step 2 – Verify the Client Can Reach the Server
Confirm that the client computer can communicate with the license server.
Check the following:
The server is powered on.
The server is connected to the network.
The client is using the correct server name or IP address.
Windows Firewall or other security software is not blocking the connection.
The required RLM ports are open.
If necessary, test communication using PowerShell:
Test-NetConnection <ServerNameOrIPAddress> -Port 2764
Replace <ServerNameOrIPAddress> with the hostname or IP address of your license server.
If the test fails, resolve the network connectivity issue before continuing.
Refer to:
Step 3 – Verify the Server License File
If the server was previously working but recently:
renewed maintenance,
added new license options,
upgraded the license,
or changed licensing,
the server may still be using an older license file.
On the license server:
Verify that the current .lic file is present.
Replace the old license file if necessary.
Restart the RLM service.
After the updated license file is loaded, client workstations should be able to obtain licenses normally.
Refer to:
Step 4 – Verify the RLM Service
On the server:
Open the RLM Web Administration page.
Confirm that the GibbsCAM license server is running.

Verify that the license file has been successfully loaded.
Confirm that license features are available.
If the RLM service is stopped, restart the service and test the client again.
Expected Result
After the Network License Server is properly configured, the client can communicate with the server, and a current license file is installed, GibbsCAM obtains a network license successfully without displaying the error.
Troubleshooting
Problem: This Is a Brand-New Installation
Cause
The Network License Server has not yet been registered.
Resolution
Complete the server installation and activation before configuring client computers.
Problem: Only One Workstation Displays the Error
Cause
The affected workstation cannot communicate with the license server.
Resolution
Verify the server name, network connectivity, firewall settings, and RLM port configuration.
Problem: Every Workstation Displays the Error
Cause
The license server is unavailable or its license file is missing or invalid.
Resolution
Verify that the RLM service is running and that a valid server license file is installed.
Problem: The Error Appeared After Updating the License
Cause
The server is still using the previous license file.
Resolution
Install the updated license file on the server and restart the RLM service.
Best Practices
Activate the Network License Server before installing client workstations.
Keep the server license file up to date whenever your license changes.
Verify client connectivity before troubleshooting GibbsCAM.
Restart the RLM service after replacing a license file.
Document the server hostname, IP address, and configured RLM ports.
